On December 6, 2024, the “Fully Networked Industrial Measurement and Control System Technology Seminar” and the “General Requirements for Ethernet Advanced Physical Layer (Ethernet-APL) Industrial Control Networks” standard working group launch meeting were successfully held in Beijing. The meeting was chaired by Wang Linkun, deputy director of the Institute of Comprehensive Technology and Economics of Machinery Industry Instruments (hereinafter referred to as the Institute of Instruments and Meters). Wang Linkun, deputy director of the Institute of Instrumentation and Automation, first expressed his gratitude to all the experts on behalf of the Secretariat of the National Industrial Process Measurement, Control and Automation Standardization Technical Committee (SAC/TC124), introduced the background of the full network measurement and control system technology seminar and the Ethernet-APL standard project, and analyzed the current status and trends of the development of industrial measurement and control systems. He emphasized that the development of the full network measurement and control system requires the concerted efforts of all parties and the construction of an industrial ecosystem, and the promotion of industrial development and industry technological progress with standards as the guide.

In the technical discussion session, Zhao Yanling, Deputy Director of the Network Control Center of the Instrument Comprehensive Institute, made a report on the development of the whole networked industrial measurement and control system. Dong Xiujuan, deputy manager of Beijing Pipeline Co., Ltd. of the State Pipeline Network Group, made a report on “Practice and Exploration of Intelligent Manufacturing in the Pipeline Field”. Yu Songtao, Deputy Director of the automatic control room of CNOOC Petrochemical Engineering Co., Ltd., made a report on “Selection and Application of Field Instruments in the Petrochemical Field”. Zhao Yong, an expert from Shanghai Automation Instrument Co., Ltd., made a report on “Development and Application of New Intelligent Instruments Based on Information Model”. Li Guangpeng, an expert from Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd., made a report on “Challenges and Thoughts on Process Industry Instrument Networking”. Zhang Xiaogang, Technical Director of ZKTeco Technology Co., Ltd., made a report on “A New Generation of Industrial Control System Based on APL”. Li Huajun, Deputy General Manager of Hangzhou Kangjisen Automation Technology Co., Ltd., made a report on “Development Progress of APL Industrial Control System Based on Modbus TCP”. Li Jia, Senior Product Manager of Siemens (China) Co., Ltd., made a report on “APL Communication Based on PROFINET”. Li Wenjuan, Manager of the Development Department of Beijing Dingshi Innovation Technology Co., Ltd., made a report on “PROFINET over APL Technology and Product Experience Sharing”. Michael Breneisen of Telebyte in the United States made a report on “Ethernet-APL Power and Data Consistency Test Solution”. Zhang Xiaojin, Senior Product Manager of Phoenix Contact, made a report on “Typical Applications of Ethernet-APL in the Process Industry”. The experts of the sharing report expounded the concept, connotation and development ideas of the fully networked industrial measurement and control system from different dimensions and perspectives.

In the standard discussion session, Hu Yongkang, a senior engineer from the Institute of Instrumentation and Control, introduced the background and main contents of the development of the standard “General Requirements for Ethernet Advanced Physical Layer (Ethernet-APL) Industrial Control Network” (Group Standard Plan No.: CAMS2024027) on behalf of the standard working group. The experts at the meeting had a heated discussion on multiple topics such as the scope of the standard, system architecture, network topology, and equipment requirements. Everyone agreed that the standard is of great significance to industrial measurement and control system equipment vendors, integrators, and end users, and suggested that the standard working group fully consider the operability and implementation of the standard and accelerate the progress of standard development.

The subsequent standard working group will complete the structural adjustment and task division of this standard as soon as possible based on the opinions of the experts attending the meeting.
